Initiatives by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti to ensure continuity of education during covid 19
By imparting online training to teachers and conducting online classes, NVS made all efforts to ensure no academic loss to students. For students without proper devices, proper education is being ensured by providing study materials, AAC and printed assignments.
The following activities in academics and capacity building were undertaken:
- Opening of JNVs: NVS developed SOP for opening of JNVs on the basis of SOP issued by MOE, MHA & MoHFW by incorporating the salient features of state administration guidelines. Bridge courses and special classes are being carried out for the students to fill up the learning gaps.
- Launch of Vigyan Jyoti Phase-2: Vigyan Jyoti Project is an ambitious collaborative initiative between Dept. of Science & Technology and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti for promotion of Girls Students in JNVs. Vigyan Jyoti Project (Phase I) is going successfully in 58 JNVs from December 2019.
- Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program is in progress.
B. Capacity building Programmes in collaboration with other organizations
- Six Days’ Training Programme for Regional Language Teachers in collaboration with CIIL, Mysore in light of NEP-2020
- Five Days’ Online Training Programme on Pedagogical Leadership for NVS Principals in collaboration with NIEPA New Delhi
Pilot on Pey Jal Survekshan under Jal Jeevan Mission- Urban launched in 10 cities
- A Pilot Pey Jal Survekshan under Jal Jeevan Mission- Urban has been launched. Pey Jal Survekshan will be conducted in cities to ascertain equitable distribution of water, reuse of wastewater and mapping of water bodies with respect to quantity and quality of water through a challenge process.
- As the first step a pilot project will be launched in 10 cities namely Agra, Badlapur, Bhubaneswar, Churu, Kochi, Madurai, Patiala, Rohtak, Surat and Tumkur. Based on the learnings of the pilot, this survekshan will be extended to all the AMRUT cities.
- Data on drinking water, waste water management, non-revenue water and condition of 3 water bodies in the city will be collected through face-to-face interviews with citizens and municipal officials as per the approved questionnaire, on-call interviews, water sample collection and laboratory testing, and field survey for non-revenue water.
- Mission will be monitored through a technology-based platform on which beneficiary response will be monitored along with progress and output-outcome. Funding from Government for projects will be in three tranches of 20:40:40. Third instalment will be released based on functional outcomes achieved and credible exclusion will be exercised while funding.
Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban) (JJM (U))
- Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban) (JJM (U)) is designed to provide universal coverage of water supply to all households through functional taps in all 4,378 statutory towns in accordance with SDG Goal- 6.
- Also, sewerage/septage management in 500 AMRUT cities with the objective of making them water secure are the major focus areas under JJM (U). Estimated gap in urban household tap connections is 2.68 crore and estimated gap in sewer connections/septage in 500 AMRUT cities is 2.64 crore, which is proposed to be covered in JJM (U).
- Rejuvenation of water bodies to augment sustainable fresh water supply and creating green spaces and sponge cities to reduce floods and enhance amenity value through an Urban Aquifer Management plan are other focus areas.
- JJM (U) will promote circular economy of water through development of a city water balance plan for each city focusing on recycle/reuse of treated sewage, rejuvenation of water bodies and water conservation. 20% of water demand to be met by reused water with development of institutional mechanisms. A Technology Sub-Mission for water is proposed to leverage latest global technologies in the field of water. Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign is proposed to spread awareness among masses about conservation of water.
- Mission also has a reform agenda, under which City Water Potability Index, reduction in non-revenue water, municipal finance reforms, rain water harvesting, recycle water to meet at least 20% total water demand by 2025 and rejuvenating three water bodies per ULB are the key proposed reforms. The ULBs will be incentivized for successful implementation of the reforms.
- For North East and Hill States, central funding for projects will be 90%. For Union Territories, central funding will be 100%. For cities with less than 1 lakh population, central funding will be 50%; for cities with 1 lakh to 10 lakh population, central funding will be one third; and for cities with million plus population, central funding will be 25%.
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan says balancing accessibility and affordability, India is creating a global model of energy justice
- The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel said that by balancing accessibility and affordability, India is creating a global model of energy justice and India will chart its own strategy and pathway for its green energy transition.
- He said that India’s energy demand is going to increase in the future, and it has taken a number of concrete steps that are shaping India’s energy transition pathways for a low carbon economy. Balancing accessibility and affordability, India is creating a global model of energy justice.
- Recently released reports by IEA, OPEC and British Petroleum indicate that the world total primary energy demand would increase at less than 1% per annum till 2040. On the other hand, India’s Energy demand would grow at about 3% per annum till 2040.
- Ensuring access to clean cooking fuel to every household of the country has been a key strategy of the government for ending energy poverty. During the last six years, the LPG landscape has completely transformed.
- To reduce vehicular pollution, India leapfrogged from BS-IV to BS-VI emission standards from 1st April, 2020 throughout the country. BS–VI, equivalent to Euro-VI norms and as good as CNG, has improved Auto fuel quality by reducing sulphur content from 50 ppm in BS-IV to 10 ppm in BS-VI.
- Investment of 60 billion US dollars is underway for developing gas infrastructure which includes pipelines, city gas distribution and LNG regasification terminals. One Nation, One-Gas Grid will connect all corners of India.
- The Ethanol Procurement by OMCs has gone up to 325 crore litre now. The ethanol-blending percentage has increased to 8.5 % now, and the aim is to have 10% blending by 2022 and 20% by 2025.
- 5000 Compressed Bio-Gas plants with a target of 15 MMT equivalent per year will be set up, creating wealth from waste. OMCs are offering assured prices and off take guarantee to private entrepreneurs. The scheme shall effectively curb stubble burning in farms during harvest season which is a major source of air pollution.
- Regarding Bio-diesel, we are also working towards conversion of Used Cooking Oil to Biodiesel in select cities. The aim is to have 5% blending of biodiesel in diesel by 2025.
- On the issue of LNG, India became the third largest importer of LNG in October last year.
- Further, Hydrogen-CNG is being used to run 50 buses as part of a pilot project in Delhi. Budget 2021 has launched the National Hydrogen Energy Mission for generating hydrogen from green power sources.
- Talking about other initiatives, Solar Capacity Increased by 13 times in last 6 years, 37 Cr LED bulbs under UJALA scheme & more than 1 Cr smart LED street light reduced around 43 Million tons of carbon emission annually. Plan is to achieve 40% electricity generation from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030.
